Course Overview
The Generic Manufacturing Skills (GMS) WSQ framework aims to raise the professionalism of the workforce. This Competency Unit aims to equip the knowledge and skills in performing formwork activities.
On completion of this unit, learners will have knowledge and skills performing formwork activities in construction and other industries.
Course Duration
1 Day
Recommended Learning Hours (RLH)
RLH = 6 training hours + 1 assessment hour

Course Objectives
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
- State the applicable legal and other requirements for formwork and working-at-height
- List the roles of a worker in formwork installation, alteration and dismantling
- State the types of formwork used in the industry
- Apply basic risk assessment for formwork activities
- Identify hazards associated with formwork activities
- Observe safety and health measures for formwork activities
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for formwork activities and Working-At-Height
Assessments
- Written Assessment:
- Duration: 1 hour
- Format: 40 multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
- Practical Assessment:
- Duration: 4 hours
- Grading: Competent / Not Yet Competent
Entry Requirements
Learners are assumed to have:
- Employability Skills (ES) Workplace Literacy level 3 and above.
- Be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to ES Workplace Numeracy level 3 and above.
